Two bodies found on beach on Koh Tao island
A manhunt is underway in Thailand after the naked bodies of two tourists were found on Sai Ree beach on the island of Koh Tao. The British tourists, aged 23 and 24, were reportedly attacked with a hoe and found on a rocky beach. Police suspect the woman had also been raped. The victims’ clothes and the blood-stained weapon were found nearby, according to media reports.
Investigators are checking CCTV footage from nearby restaurants, hotels and shops for clues. They have also questioned tourists who were part of the same group as well as locals and Burmese migrant workers. The tourists had arrived in Thailand last month.
The bodies were found near beach-side bungalows where the two victims had been staying. There had been a beach party the night before the killings, close to where the bodies were found. The UK’s Foreign Office says that 11 British nationals have been murdered in Thailand since 2009. Its travel advice warns that tourists have been victims of “vicious, unprovoked attacks by gangs” on the nearby island of Koh Phangan.
