Committed to sustainable environments, Movenpick Hotels&Resorts has become the most Green Globe certified hotel and resort chain in the world. In recognition of its sustainable operations and management, Movenpick Hotel Doha in Qatar was awarded Green Globe Certification on 2nd July, 2014. The Movenpick Hotel Doha is dedicated to maintaining its sustainable best business practices while also delivering its renowned world-class service and quality.
Green Globe is the worldwide sustainability system based on internationally accepted criteria for sustainable operation and management of travel and tourism businesses. Following an extensive assessment detailing the hotel’s key indicators on energy usage, water consumption and waste output management as well as employee training and implementation of customer satisfaction measures, the property achieved outstanding results and earned certification by Green Globe for the third year running. The hotel continues to work on improving greater efficiencies while providing a comfortable environment and outstanding facilities for guests.
Fabien Chesnais, General Manager of Movenpick Hotel Doha said, “We constantly strive to run our business responsibly. We are proud to carry the certification for another year as proof of our environmental consciousness. Our hotel is committing today, to do the right thing for tomorrow.”
Areas in which the hotel has earned the certification include significant savings in energy and water consumption in comparison to 2013, streamlined development plans for employees and the quality of service which leads to optimal customer satisfaction. Internal conservation projects, as well as carefully planned communications aimed at raising environmental awareness, also played a role in creating sustainable business. In addition, Movenpick Hotel Doha backs initiatives such as “Earth Hour” and “No Paper Day” among others. This strategy is part of a company-wide program to establish a common and global approach to environmental, employer and social sustainability.
Green Globe Director of Communications, Brad Cox said, “Qatar is rapidly becoming an important destination for international travelers, with major investment in sporting and MICE events. Doha was home to the first ministerial-level meeting of the Doha Development Round of World Trade Organization negotiations. And host to the 2006 Asian Games. In preparation for the FIFA World Cup to be held in 2022, 21 new hotels are planned for construction. It is clear to see that Movenpick Hotel Doha is already setting the standard for sustainable management.”
Following its re-certification, Movenpick Hotel Doha has devised comprehensive plans that will continue to support the hotel’s commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental, economic and socially responsible best business practices.
