Most expensive Caribbean destination revealed

British Virgin Islands, Anguilla and St Barts are priciest

The British Virgin Islands are the most expensive destination in the Caribbean, based on the cost of lodging there, a new survey reports. The survey by CheapHotels.org came to this conclusion after comparing the various destinations in the region.
The prices visitors had to spend to stay in the most affordable resorts or hotels served as the basis of comparison. The period of focus spanned January to April 2013, which represents the high season for travel to the region.
Topping the rankings as the most expensive locale was Virgin Gorda, third largest of the British Virgin Islands. There, travellers had to spend, on average, $321 (€245) a night for a stay. That made it even more expensive than chic St Barts, which came in just behind the number-two finisher Anguilla.
The 10 most expensive destinations in the Caribbean based on average rate for cheapest available double room (minimum 3-star hotel or resort) were: 1. Virgin Gorda (British Virgin Islands) US$321; 2. Anguilla US$315; 3. St. Barts US$295; 4. Nevis (Saint Kitts and Nevis) US$254; 5. St. John (U.S. Virgin Islands) US$224; 6. Tortola (British Virgin Islands) US$217; 7. Eleuthera (Bahamas) US$214; 8. Grand Cayman (Cayman Islands) US$197; 9. Paradise Island (Bahamas) US$195; 10. Runaway Bay (Jamaica) US$187.
