Union rejects offer of modest rise in salaries
Lufthansa is under threat from a second damaging round of strikes. The Verdi union, which represents thousands of the airline’s employees, has rejected an offer of salary increases as “unacceptable”.
According to Verdi, Lufthansa offered to increase salaries by 1.2% from October 2013 and a further 0.5% a year later. The offer would have been valid for 29 months and contained no job guarantees, something the union had been pressing for. The union said it would discuss this week whether or not to strike again.
Lufthansa said it had offered to raise salaries in two steps to between 1.7% and 2.3% in a deal lasting until June 2015, the increases depending on the division the employee works in.
