Emirates, Etihad, Flydubai, Gulf Air and Air Arabia cut flights
As a major rift between countries in the Gulf intensifies, all major UAE airlines – Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Air Arabia – are suspending flights to and from Doha from Tuesday morning.
The move follows the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and other Arab nations severing ties with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism. This concerns Qatar’s support of the Muslim Brotherhood and accusations it backs Iran.
All travel links with Qatar are being closed, including land and sea borders, and the countries have told their citizens to leave the country. There are reports of chaos at Doha’s airport.
“As instructed by the UAE government, Emirates will suspend its flights to and from Doha, starting from the morning of 6 June 2017, until further notice,” Emirates airline said.
The last flight from Dubai to Doha departed at 02:30 on June 6 and the last return flight departed at 03:50. It is a similar situation with the other airlines.
