Busiest year for hotel openings forecast to be 2017
The Middle East region has 541 new hotels in the pipeline, almost all of which will open by 2020 contributing a total of almost 160,000 hotel rooms, according to a new report prepared for The Hotel Show Dubai 2016.
The busiest year for hotel openings is forecast to be 2017 with 189 projects and 58,527 rooms scheduled to come onto the market, the Middle East Hotel Construction Overview report prepared by Top Hotel Projects forecasts.
The UAE and Saudi Arabia remain the most active construction hotspots in the region with 180 and 134 pipeline projects, respectively. Notable openings next year include a 10,000-key hotel in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, and the world’s first Paramount Hotels & Resorts property in Dubai.
“That is a lot of bedrooms, bathrooms, windows, doors, terraces, restaurants, pools, spas, gyms and much more to be fitted out and equipped over the next five years,” said event director Gary Williams.
This year’s edition of The Hotel Show Dubai is due to run at the same time as the Windows, Doors & Façades event and Intersolar Middle East at the Dubai World Trade Centre, on September 17-19.
