American tourists explore Mrs Trump’s homeland
Though arrivals to the United States appear to be waning, Slovenia and its capital Ljubljana claim to be welcoming many more tourists, especially from the US, now that the country’s most famous face is now in the White House.
The western Balkan nation known for its mountains, lakes and ski resorts is the home country of new United States First Lady Melania Trump.
As many as 15.4% more American tourists stayed overnight in Slovenia in December, and 10.2% more for the whole of 2016, preliminary figures from the country’s Statistics Office show.
Overall, the number of overnight stays in Slovenia in 2016 increased by 7.6% to around 11.1 million versus a 7.2% rise in 2015. Foreign tourist stays were up 10.3%, with most visitors coming from neighbouring Italy, Austria, Croatia, Germany and Serbia.
