Couple fell overboard 120 kilometres from Australia

A massive search is continuing for a couple believed to have fallen of a cruise ship more than a hundred kilometres off the coast of Australia. It is not clear whether the pair jumped or fell by accident, but their disappearance only came to light once the Carnival Spirit docked in Sydney the following morning.
A surveillance camera caught the man and woman falling from the mid deck when the ship was about 120 kilometres from the city of Forster at 20:50 on Wednesday night, local time. The Australian couple, named in media reports as paramedic Paul Rossington, 30, and Kristen Schroder, 27, were travelling together. Almost 2,700 passengers were on the ship for a South Pacific Cruise.
The search is being conducted by air and sea in an attempt to comb a 1,000 sq km area of ocean.
“This is a tragic event at the moment, but we’re holding out hope we might be able to find these people alive,” a police spokesman commented. “Obviously when you think about the circumstances of going over the side of a cruise ship, I have serious concerns about the welfare of both those people.”
