Massive resort boosts Angkor tourism

Resort brings 776 rooms and major MICE facilities
The tourism industry in Siem Reap, gateway to Cambodia’s increasingly popular Angkor temples, has received a boost with the opening of a massive new hotel and conference centre.
The 23-hectare Sokha Siem Reap Resort is now the biggest hotel in the city, adding 776 rooms and suites, plus major MICE facilities including a 2,200sqm ballroom to the destination.
IPTV entertainment systems are in all the rooms and Apple Mac computers are installed in public areas. Other facilities include three restaurants, a fitness centre and spa, and a 1,000sqm swimming pool with 43sqm screen for outdoor movies and sports events.
But the aim is to integrate these high-tech touches with traditional Khmer culture.
The new property has “all the elements of Khmer art and culture”, and “a number of beautiful Khmer red sandstone hand carvings will greet you when you arrive in the resort’s impressive lobby and around the resort,” said Chanthy Sok, Sokha’s group director of sales and marketing.
