Sharjah Waterfront City to have 200 towers, 10 islands, waterpark…
Tourism will be a major part of a massive new development in the Middle East. Sharjah Waterfront City will be a Dh20 billion (€4.8 billion) city of 200 towers, 1,100 waterfront and park-side villas and 10 islands connected by bridges and canals.
It will accommodate 200,000 residents and have its own water theme park, Crystal Lagoon, “a family destination with entertainment and fun rides”, the developer Sharjah Oasis Real Estate Development Company says.
Spread across 36 kilometres of coastal land, it will also have 95 apartment buildings that will contain “affordable luxury apartments”, multi-level hotels and service apartments, marine clubs, shopping malls, entertainment centres, mosques, schools, banks, stores, coffee shops and restaurants.
Sharjah Oasis Real Estate Development is expected to officially launch the “luxurious and environmentally-friendly city” at Cityscape Global 2015, taking place at Dubai International Exhibition and Convention Centre on September 8-10.
Situated close to Dubai, Sharjah is the third most populous city in the United Arab Emirates and is the focus of a new surge of development in the region.
The first phase of Sharjah Waterfront City, to include the mixed-use towers, villas, hotels and commercial centre, is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018. The second phase should be finished by 2020-2021. On completion the new city will have a total area of around 5.6 million square metres, becoming one of the biggest real estate developments in the emirate.
