Giant aims to have hotels throughout region
US-based company Marriott International aims to see more than one Marriott-branded hotel in Lithuania, with further properties opening up Baltic-wide.
The greatest potential in the Baltics is in the economy and mid-priced segments, the company’s development director for Central and Eastern Europe is reported to have said.
“We are focusing, of course, on the three capitals – Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn. But we also have Kaunas, Klaipeda and, possibly, Druskininkai on our radar in Lithuania,” Janusz Mitulski told the Lithuanian business paper Verslo Zinios.
“We are mostly speaking about such brands as the economy-class Moxy and mid-priced Courtyard by Marriot and AC by Marriott. In the capitals, we are also thinking about the extended-stay Residence Inn,” he added.
It was revealed in March that Marriott was embarking on the construction of a €20 million hotel in Lithuania’s resort town Palanga, to be the company’s first hotel in the Baltic countries. The 15,000 sq m hotel will be built on the site of a former swimming pool close to the beach and will have 200 rooms and a spa.
