Airbus will assemble four A320 aircraft a month in USA
By the end of 2017, Airbus will assemble four A320 aircraft a month in a location in the United States, shifting some of its production away from “high-cost” Europe.
Having a factory in Mobile, Alabama, creating 1,000 jobs there will cheaper for making the A320s than France or Germany, Airbus Group’s chief executive Fabrice Bregier told the German weekly Welt am Sonntag.
It is also needed to meet US demand for the aircraft. New production techniques as well as lower labour costs make the US an attractive location.
“The aircraft which are made there are destined for sale in North America, the market is large. Long term, we have the possibility of exporting,” he is quoted as saying. “Europe really needs to do something to remain competitive.”
