Lufthansa’s talks with pilots fail

Two sides now await proposal from mediator
Talks between Lufthansa and the union representing its pilots have ended without agreement. The next step is for the mediator in the discussions to propose his own solution to the long-running pay dispute.
Two weeks of talks led by mediator Gunter Pleuger were meant to end the row over contracts that dates back to 2012. The Vereinigung Cockpit union stands for around 5,400 Lufthansa pilots.
“Despite intensive discussions an agreement could not be reached,” the union said.
Now Pleuger should make a recommendation by February 10 and the two sides will respond.
The airline’s pilots have gone on strike 15 times over the dispute since the start of 2014, costing it hundreds of millions of euros in lost profits.
