Lufthansa pilot for Tuesday called off

Deutsche Lufthansa had been bracing for another walkout

Lufthansa’s ongoing pilot strike had been due to return on Tuesday, from 09:00 to 17:00 local time, but it has been called off. This time the long-haul flights were to suffer, and the Vereinigung Cockpit union said no long-hauls would leave to or from Frankfurt International. But it called off the strike when Lufthansa said it would proceed with long-haul flights anyway.

The union said late on Monday it had received a new offer from the airline for transition payment for those wanting to retire early.

Lufthansa has suffered a series of strikes this year lasting between one and three days over retirement benefits. So far the total number of flights cancelled is 4,400 flights. The list of demands has grown to include higher wages and the airline’s plans to set up low-cost operations also on long-haul routes.

Meanwhile, German train drivers say they are planning to strike on October 2.
