Organisational restructuring to lead to job losses
Lufthansa is looking at simplifying the way it runs its airlines. According to a report by news agency Reuters, this may include the removal of an entire layer of management.
Costs would be cut by centralising functions such as network planning, which is done at the moment by individual airlines. Consulting company McKinsey is working with Lufthansa Group – which includes Germanwings, Austrian and Swiss – on changes to be implemented in the second half of 2015.
Reuters cites Manager Magazin, which reports that Lufthansa is planning to introduce a management board position that covers its new low-cost Eurowings arm. A certain amount of jobs would be lost as a result of the streamlining, but it is unclear how many.
