Deal comes after dispute between the two sides
Lufthansa and Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport have agreed on short-term savings for the airline on charges at its long-established Frankfurt base.
The deal comes after a dispute between the two sides over increased landing fees despite discounts for new entrants like Ryanair, and provides a basis for further discussions on medium and long-term partnership.
The agreement includes a freeze on Lufthansa’s airport charges for 2018 while encouraging the two companies to cut costs and boost efficiency by, for example, improving passenger traffic planning.
“Together, we want to exploit potential areas for cost reduction and growth, and thus open up new sources of revenue, which will ensure and strengthen Frankfurt Airport’s future viability and long-term competitiveness,” said Stefan Schulte, Fraport’s chairman.
