Five-year deal agreed with 300 pilots, but disputes remain

Eurowings, Lufthansa’s regional airline, has agreed a five-year pay deal with its 300 pilots. The deal clears the way a little further as the Lufthansa Group tries to settle multiple disputes with pilots and cabin crew while reducing costs.

The new agreement includes a 2.5% pay rise for 2015 and at least 2% for subsequent years, depending on inflation. The group has now struck pay deals at Eurowings, Swiss, Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa CityLine.

But pay and early retirement disputes continue at Lufthansa itself as well as at Germanwings and Lufthansa Cargo. Lufthansa’s pilots oppose the group’s plans to expand its low-cost operations with Eurowings, where costs are 40% less than Lufthansa’s operations.
