Lonely Planet names Tallinn Best Value Destination of 2018

Tallinn came in first in the “Best Value Destination 2018 urban category of Lonely Planet’s most recent global Best in Travel campaign. If you haven’t been to Estonia’s capital yet, now’s the time to plan a visit and see what makes Tallinn the best of the best!
Lonely Planet asserts that Tallinn in the summertime is warm and lush. The city itself is compact and walkable, and using local transit to get to attractions outside the city core is inexpensive. The picturesque Old Town is filled with great restaurants serving traditional Estonian, Russian, Georgian and even vegan cuisine at affordable prices. Also worth exploring is the exciting and historically significant Kalamaja district, which boasts a truly Bohemian atmosphere and includes the Telliskini Creative City, known to attract visionaries and artistically minded individuals.
Every year, Lonely Planet’s writers and staff are requested to nominate destinations and consult their travel community, asking them to specify why each place would be worth visiting in the next year based on current travel trends, upcoming events and attractions, and much more.
Editors then carefully make a shortlist of the most appealing, interesting and diverse destinations. To finalise the list, a panel of in-house experts pick the final ten destinations in each category (countries, cities and regions), by giving each destination noted on the shortlist a score for topicality, excitement and ‘x-factor’.
