Rally is just the start of intriguing promotional ideas
Lithuania Tourism is taking advantage of the World Travel Market (stand EM 570) to launch its first London-to-Vilnius car rally. The rally, which will take place in spring 2014, is organised in conjunction with Lithuanian charities that will be the recipients of funds generated by the initiative.
Lithuanian tourism chief Dr Raimonda Balniene has been at the stand to discuss the car rally and provide updates on the destination’s plans for 2014.
“We are delighted to be launching such a high-profile event at WTM and support such relevant charities. We feel that this event will position our destination as accessible by road for all, including families,” she said.
Lithuanian tourism ambassador, accordion virtuoso and UK classical chart topper Martynas Levickis will be visiting the stand this afternoon to play some of his most successful chart-topping tunes.
In addition to the car rally, the tourist office will be promoting a new online quiz that gives agents the chance to win prizes including a Vilnius city break and Levickis CDs.
The country recently launched Likeable Lithuania, a new social media campaign encouraging people to share what they like most about the scenic country. The campaign has a target of collecting one million LIKEs and building a new attraction in Lithuania – the world’s biggest LIKE sculpture. Everyone involved in the campaign will become a “shareholder” of the sculpture and get a certificate.
Meanwhile, work continues on an international Amber Road linking all amber producing countries and promoting eco-friendly ways of exploiting amber.
