Ships to have more than 2600 cabins for 6,600 guests
Costa Cruises has announced an order to build two new cruise ships that will boast the largest guest capacities in the world.
The vessels will adopt green design principles and will be the first in the cruise industry (together with another two ships being built for Aida Cruises, a German brand of Costa Cruises) to be 100% powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG).
To be built at Meyer Turku Shipyard, each ship – one to be ready by 2019 and another by 2020 – will exceed 180,000 gross tonnage and offer more than 2600 cabins for a total of 6,600 guests. As a result of the deal, opportunities will open up in Italy for 750 crew members expected to be hired to work on both ships.
