Enhanced security requirements now in place
US authorities have finally lifted the laptop ban on Saudia Airlines – the last in its list of carriers that were not permitted to allow passengers to carry larger electronic devices in the cabin on flights bound for the US.
The airline and Jeddah airport have implemented its “required initial enhanced security measures”, the Transportation Security Administration said, and portable electronic devices can now be carried on.
The TSA issued additional security requirements in June for the airlines (EgyptAir, Emirates, Etihad, Kuwait Airways, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, Turkish Airlines) and airports (Abu Dhabi, Amman, Cairo, Casablanca, Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, Kuwait, Riyadh, Jeddah) on the laptop ban list.
One by one, the airlines were taken off the list as they met the new rules. The new security requirements have not been made public.
