Head of commercial aviation unit: “This is a milestone order”
SkyWest, a US regional airline group, has signed up for at least 40 Embraer E175s. The deal could reach as many as 200 aircraft and have a total price tag of $8.3 billion.
“This is truly a milestone order for Embraer,” said Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva, head of the manufacturer’s commercial aviation unit. The deal is one of the biggest ever for both companies, he added.
SkyWest will fly the first 40 E175s for United Airlines. Orders for a further 60 aircraft depend on future contracts with major airlines, and there are options for an additional 100. Reuters says that the deal secures Embraer’s lead over its main rival, Bombardier, in the race for new orders from major US airlines.
