Lone attacker also wounds four other tourists
A man in his 20s stabbed two German women to death on Friday and wounded four other tourists during a beach attack at two hotels in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Hurghada.
The knifeman killed the women at the Zahabia hotel, then swam to a neighbouring beach at the Sunny Days El Palacio resort before being arrested. Two of the injured were Czech, two were Armenian.
“He had a knife with him and stabbed each of them three times in the chest. They died on the beach,” a security manager at the El Palacio told Reuters.
The motive of the attacker, who was dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans, is under investigation but he is reported to have said in Arabic during the attack, “Stay away, I don’t want Egyptians”.
The assault came just hours after five policemen were killed in a shooting near Egypt’s pyramids outside Cairo. Police believe this attack bears the hallmarks of an Islamic militant group known as Hasm.
