“Northern Europe is a strong and attractive region” says KLM

In summer 2018, KLM says it will expand its medium-haul network with scheduled services to Växjö in southern Sweden, to be a daily flight in an Embraer 75 with 88 seats.

“Northern Europe is a strong and attractive region where KLM already operates a unique network. We are proud to be the first major international airline to launch daily flights to Växjö, the hometown of IKEA,” said Barry ter Voert, senior vice president for Europe.

Växjö is described by KLM as having “an entrepreneurial climate and a renowned university” with “access to nature and outdoor activities and an excellent reputation for gastronomy”.

To start from May 14, Amsterdam-Växjö brings the total number of European destinations KLM operates direct from Amsterdam to 89.

In addition to flying to the Scandinavian capitals, KLM also operates to regional airports such as Linköping in Sweden, Billund and Aalborg in Denmark and Kristiansand, Ålesund and Stavanger in Norway.

Strategic location
The investment in Växjö means that 745,000 people in the region will have access to a daily departure to and from KLM’s major hub at Schiphol.

“Växjö has a strategic location between several important cities, and the region also has a rich business and leisure life. Although we are a major international airline, we see that our regional initiatives are important to our travellers,” said Paul Terstegge, KLM’s Nordics chief.

A direct connection to “Europes best hub” is “something we have been working for a long time, and at last we can harvest the fruit,” claims Ulf Axelsson, CEO of Växjö Småland Airport.
