Report says airline will slash as many as 7,500 jobs

KLM is planning to save €4.4 billion cut in outstanding debts by cutting its workforce by as many as 7,500 jobs, or 25% of the total workforce, the Dutch daily newspaper Algemeen Dagblad is reporting. The airline would then hire the shortfall in staff largely through outsourcing.

The airline is expected to officially announce the measure today, following the release of Air France-KLM’s quarterly earnings. The newspaper quoted the head of the union De Unie as a source for the information.

Air France-KLM’s plans to push the growth of budget brand Transavia motivated pilots at Air France to strike for two weeks in September.
