In a break with tradition, Simon McNamara, Director General, European Regions Airline Association (ERA*), made two awards for Personal Excellence at the ERA General Assembly on 14 October in Berlin.
Klaus Knöpfle of kkconsult, and Bernie Baldwin, editor at Low-Fare & Regional Airlines, accepted their awards at the association’s prestigious gala awards dinner, this year held at the vintage car museum in Berlin, Classic Remise.
Knöpfle, a vice chair of the ERA Industry Group and managing director of kkconsult, an independent consultancy for airport operations and handling services, was commended for his commitment to both the aviation industry and ERA. McNamara commented: “Klaus has given a huge amount of time and expertise to ERA, really helping to drive forward the association’s industry affairs and aero political work over the last 16 years. In particular, his work this year in setting up a meeting between the new chair of the European Parliament Transport Committee and ERA has been invaluable in reinforcing ERA’s relationships with Europe’s policy makers.”
Bernie Baldwin’s long and successful career in media aviation was also applauded by McNamara at the dinner. ”Bernie is a stalwart of the industry. We rely on our media colleagues to help amplify the work that ERA does and it is only right that we not only recognise that but also the individual. Bernie is a great example of how the media can work with the industry,” he said.
The gala dinner was just one of the highlights of the General Assembly 2015, which saw more than 400 regional aviation experts, including 46 airlines, gather in Berlin.
The event, which was hailed a great success, provided an ideal opportunity for delegates to network with both old and new colleagues and form the personal and business relationships that are essential to the future prosperity of Europe’s regional aviation industry. The dates and venue are already set for ERA General Assembly 2016: 11-13 October, Madrid, Spain.
