High-ranking officials to toast Western Main Line
Sweden’s Western Main Line, the railway that runs between Stockholm and Gothenburg, celebrates its 150th anniversary this autumn. It will be celebrated in Hallsberg on September 27.
Among the high-ranking officials due to attend the event is the King of Sweden, who will sign a stone in the square below the station. The minister for infrastructure and the general director of the Swedish Transport Administration will also be there, not only to celebrate but also to discuss future opportunities and problems.
The Western Main Line was completed in autumn 1862, radically shortening the travel time between the two cities. The maiden journey was made by King Charles XV and was the track was lined with Swedes.
