Europe-US flights could be sold at €10 a head: CEO

Low-cost carrier Ryanair is aiming at launching long-haul flights to the United States by 2019, attracting passengers with very cheap prices, chief executive Michael O’Leary is reported to have told the Sunday newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.

“We will start with this as soon as we get the planes,” O’Leary said in an interview. “We have a finished business plan in the drawer,” he said.

New planes are too expensive at the moment and out of stock because of heavy orders by Gulf carriers such as Emirates, he said, adding that tickets for Europe-US flights could be sold at a net price of €10, excluding baggage, food and entertainment costs. His comments were not a publicity stunt, he insisted.
