India extends e-visa to two months

Double-entry benefits also available to tourists
Tourists visiting India by e-visa can now stay for up to two months instead of just one – with the option of double-entry benefits, or triple if traveling to India for medical treatment.
With the double-entry benefits, tourists can visit neighbouring countries like Bhutan and return to India within the period without having to renew their visa.
“The government has liberalised its visa regime to promote tourism, business travel and attract potential investors to the country,” said Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
The e-visa is subdivided into three categories, e-tourist visa, e-business visa and e-medical visa. The window for application has been increased from 30 days to 120 days. Business and medical visas can be given within 48 hours on urgent request.
Immigration counters and facilitation desks to assist medical tourists have been set up at six airports, namely Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
The e-visa facility has been extended to people from 161 countries for entry through Indian 24 airports and three ports – Cochin, Goa and Mangalore.
A new category of visa, Film (F), has also been introduced lasting up to a year with multiple entry, as has an Intern (I) visa.
