Hotel giant signs five hotels to Holiday Inn brands
Intercontinental Hotels Group says it is signing five new properties in Germany under its Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands.
The properties are located in the Bavaria, Baden-Wuerttemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia regions and will open between 2017 and 2019.
The 182-room Holiday Inn Express Regensburg will open in late 2017 as part of a new retail and office development, while the Holiday Inn Express Oberhausen is to open in early 2018 with 140 rooms.
The city of Mannheim will get two IHG properties – the Holiday Inn Mannheim City-Hauptbahnhof by the railway station and the Holiday Inn Express Mannheim in the centre. And between Stuttgart and Karlsruhe, the 140-room Holiday Inn Express Pforzheim will open in late 2019.
IHG currently operates 64 hotels in Germany, with 33 more in the pipeline (32 to be branded under the Holiday Inn family).
“The German hotel market is accelerating at pace and we are well positioned to take advantage of the appetite for branded growth,” said Robert Shepherd, IHG’s chief development officer for Europe. “57% of the market is unbranded, so there is a lot of opportunity for IHG to add value with our international brands.”
He added: “Several of our signings in the last few months have been with longstanding partners of IHG, who have signed multiple development agreements with the company.”
The group signed 24 hotels with 4,000 rooms in the first half of this year, which it says is its best signings performance since 2008.
