“I’m always planning my next trip,” says Lára Jónsdóttir
“You’ve caught me at a good moment: it’s actually seldom someone meets me in a bad one”, said Lára Jónsdóttir at Keflavík International Airport this week when a reporter from an Icelandic national newspaper caught up with her.
According to Guðjón Arngrímsson, the airline’s vice president, Lára, who celebrated her 100th birthday this summer, is said to be the oldest passenger ever to have flown with the airline.
Lára is not one to let age bother her and travels regularly to visit other countries. For her latest trip she’s off to Orlando to visit her son-in-law for his 70th birthday. When asked about her plans while there, she swiftly replied: “We’re going to drink some wine, enjoy the sunshine and probably do a fair bit of shopping.”
She added: “Knowing me, this won’t be my last trip either. I’m always planning my next. I think I’d like to go to Boston on a shopping trip. I fancy buying myself a nice new blouse and a pair of trousers.”
Her granddaughter, Lára Hildur Tómasdóttir, who was accompanying Lára on her travels, has no worries about her grandma’s non-stop escapades.
“She always gets to sit at the front of the plane and of course she’s really well looked after onboard. She travels so frequently we’re all pretty much used to it now. […] Grandma always comes home from her trips happy, tanned and feeling ten years younger.”
Lára Jónsdóttir: “Everyone’s so thrilled that I make the effort to go on these trips, while I still can. It’s so very important to make the most of the time you have.”
She encourages everyone else to do the same.
