The Guardian presents Lonely Planet pick in pictures
Lonely Planet’s full list of best new travel experiences for 2015 is available in a free ebook. The Guardian presents some of them in pictures. At the top is Langjökull, Europe’s second-biggest ice cap, where from May this year a 500m-long tunnel will allow visitors to explore deep inside the glacier.
Elsewhere, as previously reported, one of the world’s scariest hikes is due to reopen to the public, possibly as early as February. The Caminito del Rey footbath in El Chorro, southern Spain, is a dangerous cliff walk along a gorge. It is likely to be far safer than it used to be.
Other new attractions scheduled to open in 2015 include the One World Observatory on the 102nd floor of the One World Trade Center skyscraper in New York; a new boldly designed biodiversity museum in Panama; 22 dramatic new Great Rides cycle trails in New Zealand; homestays with Papua New Guinea’s ancient Korafe tribe via AirBnb; and zip-line tours of the canopy in the steep hills outside Taipei, Taiwan.
