Airline axes 39% of scheduled flights for Feb 18-22
As Iberia prepares for the first wave of strikes protesting against the airline’s restructuring plans, it has cancelled 39% of its scheduled flights for the period of February 18 to 22. The airline said that 415 of its 1062 flights covering the initial four-day strike would be cancelled. Of these, 206 would be domestic flights, 190 medium haul, 19 long haul.
An Iberia spokesman told ATW: “In the case of the long-haul flights, less than four flights a day are cancelled out of almost 40. There are no flights cancelled to the US and only a few flights to Latin American destinations.”
Plans are being made for strategic flight cancellations for further strike dates on March 4-8 and March 18-22, details of which will be released in the coming days.
