“Thailand needs to urgently build new terminal and runway capacity”

IATA has advised Thailand to “urgently” expand five-year-old Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. “Thailand needs to urgently build new terminal and runway capacity at Suvarnabhumi to ensure it remains one of the region’s top hubs,” the aviation body said in a statement. “These urgent expansion projects must done in full consultation with the airline users to ensure that costs and design are in line with the needs of those that will pay the bill – the airlines.”
Aviation contributes 1.5% of Thai GDP, a figure that rises to 9% when the contribution of tourism is factored in.
IATA added that Don Muang, Bangkok’s secondary airport and formerly Thailand’s main airport, should remain supplementary to Suvarnabhumi.
