Airline group launches new low-cost long-haul carrier
International Airlines Group has launched a new airline called LEVEL – a low-cost long-haul carrier to connect Europe with destinations across the Atlantic, to compete directly with airlines such as Norwegian.
“LEVEL is an exciting new IAG airline brand which will bring a stylish and modern approach to flying at prices that are even more affordable,” declared Willie Walsh, chief executive of IAG, the parent company of British Airways, Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling.
Based in Barcelona, the airline will use two new Airbus A330s as well as pilots and cabin crew who currently fly for Iberia. It is expected to start flights in June with services between Barcelona and Los Angeles and Oakland, California.
The company will then launch flights to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and to Buenos Aires this summer. Tickets are on sale with fares starting at $149 one-way. Each one of the A330s will have 21 premium economy and 293 economy seats.
