Lonely Planet names best places to console yourself
Lonely Planet has named some the best places in the world to go to get married – and the best places to run away alone after a break-up. One of the post-break-up recommendations is the moody coastal landscape of Hustadvika in Norway.
“Chaotic, salt stained, yet free – this stretch of ocean in a storm is a perfect metaphor for your dark heart,” the text reads. “Stare out at the fantastically wild waves and contemplate how you got dumped. Or muse over the notorious history of this coast: ships have been sinking here since the Middle Ages.”
After that, Lonely Planet advises the love-lost to rent a car and drive along the Atlantic Road towards the western fjords and the fishing village of Kristiansund. “Along this winding stretch you’ll cross no fewer than 12 bridges over less troubled water,” the travel publisher says.
Places named in the list to get married include Tuscany, Leh in India, the Western Cape of South Africa and Antarctica where ecotourism honeymoon expeditions include sea-kayaking, scuba diving and interaction with whales and emperor penguins.
Another spot to recover after a break-up is Aitutaki in the Cook Islands, a stunning island that is “better looking than your ex”.
