Line prepares 10 new sailings with MS Midnatsol in 2016-17
Norwegian ferry and cruise company Hurtigruten has announced it is launching MS Midnatsol to Antarctica for the 2016-17 season, more than doubling its capacity in the region.
Calling itself “the world’s foremost authority in Arctic and Antarctic voyaging and explorer travel”, Hurtigruten says that the Chilean fjords, Cape Horn, the Strait of Magellan and Antarctica are “only some of the highlights” of the ship’s itineraries when it sets sail in September 2016 from Punta Arenas in Patagonia.
A combination of extreme nature experiences in Antarctica and South American hospitality set the framework for Hurtigruten’s “new and stronger initiatives” in southern latitudes. MS Midnatsol (2003) will have up to 500 guests on board.
“An internationally composed, highly experienced expedition team will ensure a varied and exciting content to the voyage, both on board and during landings and excursions throughout the adventure,” Hurtigruten says. “Hiking on glacier ice thousands of years old, walking among penguins, kayaking between seals and snorkelling in Antarctica’s ice water are just some of the experiences that will be offered during these voyages.”
Hurtigruten says it is positioning itself even more strongly in the growing exploration market, as “a leading, responsible player in sustainable travel”.
