How hotels can boost minibar sales


Automated minibars tie into guestroom systems

Automated minibars are getting tied into guestroom entertainment systems that also include movies, TV and high-speed internet as hotels create combined entertainment packages.

The US firm Minibar Systems says hotels can now offer a “movie night” package, for example, which includes a discounted snack from the minibar.

“You get a lot more revenue because now, even though the movie package has a reduction in the price of the snack, you’re getting an additional consumption that you may not have had,” explains the company’s EVP, Walt Strasser.

“We live in the world of impulse sales. Minibars have always been and will always be an impulse item, so when we bundle those packages for guests it’s quite powerful.”

Minibar Systems is also creating customised minibar designs for hotels.
