One chain is named ‘worst’ for fifth year running

A hotel chain in the UK has been named the worst in the country – for the fifth year running. Britannia Hotels has again come at the bottom of the list of the annual Which? travel survey.

Britannia, which has 54 properties, is unable to score more than two stars in any single category, HuffPost UK reveals, and the chain ended up with an overall customer satisfaction rating of just 33%.

“Our survey shows that after five years at the bottom, Britannia shows no signs of improving the poor experience it offers its guests,” said Alex Neill of Which?

The results are based on 4,000 anonymous responses from Which? members, taking into account factors such as cleanliness, the comfort of the beds and price. An undercover investigator confirmed Britannia’s hotels to have features like a lumpy mattress and a cracked sink.

Top of the table
Britannia also charges more, on average, than its much higher rated rival Premier Inn, which came top of the table with five stars for bathrooms, bedrooms and bed comfort and an overall score of 79%.

Other high scorers include Ibis Budget in second, with 71%, and Radisson Blu, Crowne Plaza and MacDonald all in third at 70%. Not so well placed are Days Inn Hotel (49%), Old English Inn (55%) and Travelodge (58%).
