Hotels kick out business centres, bring in “wired” areas
The growing number of people who work on the road – you could call them digital nomads – means that a “business centre” with an old fax machine and internet workstation just isn’t going to cut it anymore, Asian hotel booking site Agoda.com writes. Hotels are now replacing them with something far more 21st century.
Guests staying at the W Singapore in Sentosa Cove can access the WIRED business centre, which offers packing and shipping services as well as machines that can bind or laminate for professional-looking presentation packages.
Westin Hotels have embraced the same concept, implementing Project Hive at three properties – the Westin Boston Waterfront, the Westin Arlington Gateway and the Westin Grand Munich – with a global rollout planned for later this year. The chain offers rentable meeting rooms with video conferencing, flat-screen televisions, large whiteboards, printers/fax machines/scanners/copiers, and sturdy furniture specially designed to allow groups to collaborate, brainstorm and concentrate without having to sit in a noisy coffee shop or busy lobby.
