Tech innovations major brands are introducing this year
Upscale chains are testing some innovative high-tech services to add flair to their hotels in 2016.
Some of the more inventive are designed to give consumers more control and customisation over their stay. Starwood Hotels & Resorts, for example, is testing smart floor tiles that light a path between the bed and the bathroom or to help guests find their way from the lifts to the room.
Starwood is also rolling out smart mirrors that display news headlines, sports scores and the weather. In addition, guests will be able to set their preferred in-room lighting, music and coffee maker all from a smartphone.
A robot already delivers food and amenities to the rooms at the Crowne Plaza San Jose-Silicon Valley. At the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner, staff dial into a robot to remotely interact with guests.
The Peninsula Chicago and The Peninsula Beverly Hills will soon put touch-screen tablets with multiple languages in each room, allowing guests to control room temperature, television, room service and car service.
