Heathrow wants third runway

Is expected to insist on the need for a third runway when it releases a major report to day

According to The Sunday Telegraph, Heathrow chief executive Colin Matthews will outline the risk to Britain because of its inability to offer as many destinations as European rivals.
Matthews is expected to give several options for where a new runway could be built, with a location to the west of the airport reportedly the preference.
The newspaper said the report would also reject a so-called “mixed-mode” which would involve using the current runways for simultaneous take-offs and landings.
Matthews is also expected to rule out the need for a fourth runway before 2040.
In contrast to Heathrow’s plan, Mayor Boris Johnson is expected to deliver a report supporting a four-runway airport on the Isle of Grain in north Kent, or a Stansted expansion.
