Hundreds of additional border staff to be brought in

London’s Heathrow Airport is now prepared for the big surge in demand expected during the Olympics, officials say. The promise comes despite worries that long lines of passengers will have to wait for security and border controls. Hundreds of additional fully trained border staff will be brought in, said Marc Owen, director of the UK Border Force. Sixteen mobile multitask teams will also be stationed the airport. And, besides the extra employees, the airport will be using e-Passport gates.
“We have got hundreds of staff,” he said. “We have enough staff coming in to man our desks through the seven-week period.”
Heathrow has spent €25 million so far on preparations for the London 2012 games.
