Guns found at US airports reaches record number

Yet screeners fail to find banned weapons in majority of cases
Airport security agents found 67 firearms in passengers’ carry-on luggage in just one week in the USA – a record number. Of these, 56 were loaded.
The record week was the one ending September 17, the previous high being 65 firearms discovered during a week in May 2013, the Transportation Security Administration said.
In the most recent week, ending September 24, agents found 64 firearms in carry-on bags, of which 55 were loaded.
The administration is currently making security gaps at airport checkpoints a top priority. This followed a Department of Homeland Security report that found that airport screeners were failing to find banned weapons in as many as 67 out of 70 tests at various airport checkpoints.
