CEO blames “challenging business environment”

Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national airline, has said it will close its routes to four destinations. Services to Damascus will cease on 2 March, flights to both Athens and Milan will stop on 12 March, and flights to Kuala Lumpur will be shut down on 25 March. It has already been announced that the carrier’s Entebbe and Geneva routes will close.
Gulf Air CEO Samer Majali: “It is currently a challenging business environment for airlines around the world. These closures are pragmatic commercial decisions aimed at focusing services on routes with higher passenger traffic. Our commercial strategy, developed in 2009, delivered significant gains in 2010, but the last year has been challenging. Therefore, we are now adapting our approach to address the challenges on an urgent basis.”
