Websites and shoulder-season sales drive earnings
Triple-A rated travel agency Greenland Travel saw 5% more revenues in 2015, driven in particular by 33% growth in online sales of its tourism products in the shoulder seasons.
The agency, part of Air Greenland group, says the results are “very satisfactory and above the budgeted profit”, with increases in both the leisure and business segments.
Profit at Greenland Travel stood at DKK 6.72 million (€903,500) before tax and DKK 5.3 million after tax. Equity amounted to DKK 31.5 million.
“This year’s results reflect some of the many initiatives we have focused on since 2014,” said managing director Peter Bastrup. “The direct sale of packages is occurring primarily via Greenland Travel’s Danish, German and English websites. On the Danish and English websites the number of purchases increased by 30% compared to 2014. The German site started up in 2014 and is already generating good direct sales. Greenland Travel will continue to invest over the next year in the development and functionality of the websites.”
He added: “We have had really great sales of tourism products in the shoulder season, seeing growth of 33% compared to 2014. The upcoming summer season also looks promising for tourism in Greenland – our employees really need to juggle to find available hotel rooms in Greenland to our customers.”
Greenland Travel established a new office in Aalborg in spring 2015, partly to be close to its growing number of customers in North Jutland and partly to attract new clients with travel needs in the Arctic.
