Gotland’s biggest hotel takes Scandic name

Visby HamnHotell to be first Scandic hotel on island

Scandic announced today that Gotland’s biggest hotel, Visby HamnHotell, will become its first hotel on the Swedish island on June 14. Comprehensive refurbishment and an extension of the hotel have been completed and the new Scandic Visby will offer 214 guestrooms, “many with sea views and a balcony or terrace”, the hotel group says.
The complex includes conference facilities, two restaurants, a pool, an outdoor spa, a gym and a location opposite the ferry terminal close to the medieval town centre. Twenty-seven of the rooms are for disabled guests.
Despite it being one of the Nordic region’s leading hotel chains, Scandic has so far not ventured onto the popular holiday island. Ahead of the final construction phase at the hotel, owner GotlandsResor investigated and assessed the various hotel chains on the market, opting for Scandic. GotlandsResor will continue to own and manage the hotel; joining up with Scandic will not mean any personnel changes and the hotel manager, Jennie Hägerstrand, will remain in her post at the newly refurbished hotel.
