Google throws weight behind luxury OTA Secret Escapes
Google’s European investment arm has thrown its weight behind a luxury OTA called Secret Escapes. Google Ventures has reportedly led a £38 million (€53.5 million) fundraising, according to the newspaper Sunday Times.
It has linked up with venture capital players Octopus, Index and Atlas to inject cash into the five-year-old business.
Revenues at the company have grown by more than 70% year-on-year, and it now has around 15 million registered members and 230 staff with offices in Berlin, Warsaw, Stockholm and New York.
“We spend our whole time looking forward and thinking about how to make this bigger and better,” said Secret Escapes’ chief executive and co-founder Alex Saint.
The company has also bought German and Polish rivals.
“We will start to look seriously at Asia for acquisitions and growth,” Saint added. “The wonderful thing is that business has followed the same path in every country in which we have launched. It gives you the confidence to invest in multiple territories.”
