Future paths for tourism growth to be debated at worldwide tourism forum

Opinion leaders and industry experts from the private and public sectors will examine the health of global tourism at the upcoming Global Tourism Forum Andorra 2011. Taking place at Andorra la Vella on 6-7 March 2011 against a backdrop of economic challenges and change in the Middle East, the spotlight will rest on the future development of tourism.
Organised by the UNWTO, the forum will bring together for the first time representatives from inside and outside the sector to debate the best path for more sustained and responsible tourism development. Three plenary sessions will analyse the current state of the sector, debate how to move tourism forward along a more competitive and responsible growth path and outline the role of tourism in responding to the challenges of the 21st century. Side events will highlight key issues such as the links between tourism and mega-events, notably the FIFA World Cup. The UNWTO’s global media partner CNN will host a further side event on how to effectively communicate the importance of tourism through traditional and new media.
Panellists include, for example, the ministers of tourism of South Africa and Mexico, the chairman of VisitBritain, the chairman of Pacific Asia Travel Association, the director of the China Tourism Academy, the president and CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council, the vice-chairman of Sol Melia Hotels & Resorts and the deputy director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
