Crack in glass 1km above ground causes panic in China
Part of a new glass-bottomed walkway in China, which curves around a cliff more than a kilometre above the ground, has cracked causing panic among tourists.
The incident occurred earlier this week on a newly opened walkway at Yuntai Mountain Geological Park in Henan Province, which hugs the cliff at a height of about 1,080 metres. Understandably, people standing on it at the time “freaked out”, in the words of one tourist.
One visitor, Lee Dong Hai, said on the social media site Weibo: “I was almost at the end and suddenly I heard a sound. My foot shook a little. I looked down and I saw that there was a crack in the floor.”
Authorities commented that the glass cracked after a visitor dropped a stainless steel mug on it.
